Stainless steel investment casting Process
- Model Making: First, a wax model of the part to be cast is made. This can be done through hand engraving, CAD design and 3D printing.
- Model coating: Dip the wax model into a ceramic slurry to form a ceramic shell. This process requires multiple coatings and dryings to form a strong shell.
- Wax model melting: Place the ceramic shell in a high-temperature furnace to completely melt and flow out the wax model, leaving a cavity to form an empty shell of the wax model.
- Casting: Inject molten stainless steel or other alloy materials into the empty shell of the wax model, filling the entire cavity.
- Cooling and solidification: Once the metal filling is complete, the ceramic shell cools and hardens, forming a solid casting.
- Shelling and post-processing: Finally, the ceramic shell is removed from the casting and subjected to trimming, polishing and other post-processing steps to bring the final product up to design requirements.
